thespindleandtoolarecleanedautomaticallybythecompressedairserviceinst
alledinthemachinewhileothermachinesspindlesarecleanedmanually.
Theprobleminmanyplantsisthattheairusedtocleanthespindlescontainswaterthatcollectsinthecompresse
dairlineswheneverhumidityishigh.Inthehotsummermonths,
theairlinecanlookjustlikeagardenhose.Theresultisthatwaterissprayedintothespindlealongwiththeair,
causingrustthatcreatesthesameaccuracyproblemsasthechipsthattheairwasdesignedtoremove.
Sometimesspindlesneedtoberebuiltorscrapped,
andinothercasesexpensiverepairstothemachinetoolmayberequired.

butconsumeaconsiderableamountofelectricityandalsorequireregularmaintenanceforthemotorsandothermovingparts.
Ontheotherhand,compressedairdryersbasedonthemembraneseparationprinciplecostslightlymorefromaninitialpurchasestandpoint,
buthavenomovingpartsanddonotrequireanymaintenanceexceptforchangingthefiltereveryyear.
Dryersthatusethemembraneseparationprincipleworklikethis:
First,thecompressedairpassesthroughhighefficiencycoalescingfilters.
Thesefiltersremoveoilandwaterdropletsandparticulatecontamination.
Then,theairmovesintothedehydrationmembranes,whichconsistofbundlesofhollowmembranefibers,
eachpermeableonlytowatervapor.
